Our Otsile Nkadimeng was included on the list of “100 Young Mandelas” published by News 24 to celebrate the legacy of former President Nelson Mandela on Mandela Day.
The people on the list were nominated by the organisation’s readers and Otsile was nominated in the Climate Literacy and Sustainability category.
News24 described the 100 as “a new generation of heroes who are committed to building the South Africa of Madiba’s dreams who have displayed extraordinary talent, unwavering passion, and a deep commitment to making a positive difference in our country.”
The citation on Otsile reads:
“Otsile Nkadimeng is a high school student and the lead organizer of Fridays for Future South Africa. He is also the co-founder of the Sundial Movement, a Climate Network that connects high school students to take collective action on Climate Change. Alongside his role as a Climate Activist, Otsile serves as the Executive Director of So We Vote, a Youth Voting Advocacy group.
His commitment and motivation to resolve the Climate Crisis are rooted in the same principle that inspired Nelson Mandela and his generation. Otsile envisions a better future for our country, one that is more Climate Resilient. He believes that achieving this future requires a Just Transition that uplifts the poor and disenfranchised, leading to an improved quality of life for all.
Otsile emphasizes the people-focused nature of Climate Justice and strives to remind others of this through his actions and his activism.”
