Jeppe High School for Boys

Building loyalty, honesty, friendship, and character

Headmaster's welcome

Jeppe High School for Boys is Johannesburg’s oldest public school having been established in 1890 in Fairview, Johannesburg. As noted in the book Historic Schools of South Africa “perhaps more than any other Johannesburg school, it reflects the history and changing character of the city and has always been a melting pot for children of diverse socioeconomic, language and cultural backgrounds”

Jeppe is recognised as one of South Africa’s Top 20 boys’ schools. The defining characteristics of the men it produces centre on the principles of loyalty, honour and friendship.

While many Jeppe pupils have gone on to become captains of industry, famous politicians and international sportsmen, it is the ability of the school to shape the characters of boys into men which is its greatest success.

Despite challenging economic times, Jeppe has been able to consistently maintain its high academic, sporting and discipline standards which has enabled the school to fulfil its ambition of “turning Black and White into Gold ”.

In recent times, Jeppe has experienced a resurgence in its fortunes and is recognised as a school very much “on the up” as evidenced by the rapidly improving academic and sporting results and discipline and behaviour of the students.

The continued drive towards excellence has been underpinned by a passionate and loyal Old Boy network which has financed various infrastructure upgrades to the school campus and has provided the finance, skills and experience to assist the dedicated staff within the school.
