The 2nd leg of Johannesburg’s biggest derby double-header fixture, and one of the biggest in the country: Jeppe High School for Boys vs King Edward VII School, takes place at Jeppe this Saturday.
The schools began playing rugby against each other in 1935 and, since then, there have been 95 encounters. KES has won 62, Jeppe 27 and there have been six draws.
During the 1970s, 80s and 90s KES pretty much dominated the first rugby team results. Jeppe have clawed their way back in recent times. In the last 10 years, KES have won six times, Jeppe four and there has been one draw.
The hockey matches between the two schools began later, in 1960. There have been 62 clashes so far. Jeppe won 28 of them, KES 15, with 19 draws. Of the last 12 encounters, Jeppe have won 11, with one draw.
