New deputy principal begins in third term

Mr Sipho Mpisane will be joining Jeppe in the third term as Deputy Principal. He will be in charge of academic innovation, which will involve applying 21st century technology and innovation to the existing learning programmes at the school in order to enhance the teaching and learning experiences of the boys.

Mr Mpisane has a Master of Education degree from Wits University, specialising in educational leadership and policy and 21st century education in South Africa. He began his teaching career in 2010 and taught at high schools before joining the CAP organisation’s school development initiative, where he spent two years as a programme director and senior learning associate, working in the area of cognitive acceleration and innovation. He then moved to St. Stithians Boys College, where he taught mathematics and ran the Internship and Cognitive Acceleration programmes. He was there for two years before he moved to the UCT Online School as its deputy principal and later became the principal of its NSC and Adult Matric divisions.

“I am moving on because this opportunity at Jeppe provides an exciting challenge: that of introducing the latest technology and developments in online learning in a traditional school that has a rich history and a record of excellence,” Mr Mpisane said. “Innovation is my passion, and I believe we can build on our existing strengths by introducing aspects of 21st century learning.” It’s not about moving towards online learning, he stresses. “My experience at UCT has shown that monitoring and tracking of learning can be greatly enhanced and that learning can be divided into modules. That can be applied to the teaching internship programme and to the continuous professional development of the staff as well.

“I am very excited to be coming to Jeppe. I’m looking forward to making a contribution and to learning in the excellent environment that exists there.”
