Our three drivers responsible for transporting learners, locally and on longer tours, recently completed an advanced driving course focussing on defensive driving at the Masterdrive Advanced Driving Academy.

The three, George Ramutle, Fhumulani Muvhango and Albert Mabasa, told us about their experiences.

“A course like this should be compulsory for all drivers,” George said, “irrespective of whether they transport passengers or not. “For me, it was about two simple but very important things – distance and observation. Increase the distance between you and other vehicles all the time, and be observant, keep your eyes open and try to see everything going on around you.”

Albert said that the most important thing he learnt was to slow down. “Reduce the speed you are going at,” he said, “but also slow down in general, be patient, don’t rush things, it’s more important to be safe than to be early.”

Fhumulani was struck by the difference between this training and the public transport training he did some time ago. “That was all about me as the driver. Where I should be, what I should do etc. This was about everyone else on the road, They taught us to watch all the other cars, pedestrians, and our passengers. If you are aware of them, the chances of an accident are reduced,” he said.

Congratulations gentlemen, it’s reassuring to know that our boys are being transported by drivers who are at the top of their game.
