Antheo Naidoo was one of our stars in the 2023 Senior Certificate exams. He earned six distinctions and among them was a 99% average for Further Studies Mathematics, which put him in the top 1% in the country in the IEB subject. He wrote two exams, scoring 98% in the FS Maths Standard paper, and a perfect 100% in the extended Statistics paper.
He believes the secret to his success, apart from working very hard, all the way through school, is to pay attention and participate in class. That, and surrounding himself with a group of like-minded friends who were as serious about doing well as he was. “Being in group like that, with everyone supporting each other, takes the pressure off you,” he said. I had that at Jeppe and, in FS Maths I had the most amazing teacher in Ms Standish-White, without her I would never have done so well.”
It wasn’t all studying though, Antheo played cricket, for the lower teams, throughout his years at Jeppe and he loved it. “It got me away from my books and into the open air and I made a different set of friends there. I was also in the Thunee Card Club and I still play with that same group of friends.”
That kind of balance is what he advises this year’s matrics to achieve. “Don’t listen to what everyone tells you. Try things out and settle for what works for you, then go for it.”
He is off to Wits this year to study a BSc in Physics. “That has always been my passion. I see the beauty of God’s design in physics,” he said.
Expect more academic excellence from him in the years to come.
