1.
GENERAL

1.1
The Boarding House buildings and property must be treated with respect and any damages reported immediately. Any damages will be for the account of the Boarder responsible. Damaging House property is a serious offence.

1.2  
No litter is to be left around the Boarding House or grounds.

1.3
Ball games and general “horseplay” are not allowed in the Boarding House or on designated areas of the Boarding House grounds.

1.4
No Boarder may have a personal means of transport, e.g. cars, motorcycles, and bicycles etc. on the premises without the written permission of the headmaster.

1.5
Undesirable literature or DVD’s, smoking, alcohol, narcotics, hubbly-bubbly and dangerous weapons are strictly forbidden. 

1.6
Electrical heating appliances, e.g. heaters, kettles etc. are not allowed.

1.7
Hair must be cut in accordance with School Rules.

1.8
Casual swimming must be supervised by a Housemaster and the swimming pool rules must be observed.

1.9
Tuck kept in lockers must be in well-sealed containers.

1.10
Intimidation or bullying in any form is forbidden.

1.11
New Boarders may not be used as general servants by any other Boarder in the Boarding House. The undertaking of any initiation practices is strictly forbidden.

1.12
Telephone calls may not be made or received during prep, meals or after 21:30. Cell phones are to be switched off during these times.

1.13
All Boarders will return to the Boarding House on Sunday evening between 17:30 and 19:30. If a Boarder cannot return by 19:30 as a result of exceptional circumstances, the onus is on his parents to telephone the Housemaster on duty before 19:30.

1.14
Boarders are not allowed to switch Boarding Houses. A written request must be directed at the Headmaster, who may make exceptions.

1.15
All Boarders are encouraged to be involved in a major extramural activity each term.
 


2.
LEAVE, ROLL CALL AND SIGNING OUT

2.1
As long as Boarders are on the premises of the Boarding House, they are under the supervision of the Housemaster on duty. Boarders may not leave the Boarding House or School boundaries without a signed exeat from the Housemaster on duty. If a Boarder is found to be away from these boundaries without permission at any time, he will be in danger of expulsion from the Boarding House.

2.2
Boarders may leave on Friday after school.

2.3
Normal Boarding House Rules apply for all Boarders staying in over weekends.

2.4
Special Leave will only be granted on a written request by the parents. Requests must be made to the Senior Housemaster at least 2 days in advance. Special Leave is at the discretion of the Senior Housemaster. Behaviour is a pre-requisite for Special Leave.

2.5
When a Boarder is granted special leave and is collected from the Boarding House, he must be properly signed out and in by the person collecting him. This involves recording relevant details in the Boarding House exeat file. Should the pupil be fetched from the School, an exeat must be signed in the Administrative Office.

2.6
All Boarders must be at roll calls. Should a Boarder miss afternoon roll call as a result of an extramural activity, he must obtain a leave slip from the Housemaster or prefect on duty for the educator in charge of that activity to sign.
 


3.
DINING ROOM

3.1
Attendance at meals is compulsory. Boarders may miss a meal only if the Housemaster has given permission

Table manners must be of a high standard.

3.3
Dress must be appropriate. Footwear must be worn. NO vests or pyjamas may be worn at any meal.
 


4.
DORMITORIES AND ABLUTIONS

4.1
Windows are to be opened in the morning.

4.2
Wet towels are to be hung up to dry.

4.3
No clothing or other personal items may be left hanging or lying in the dormitories.

4.4
By lights out there must be silence in the dormitories.

4.5
Toilets must be flushed after use.
 


5.
CLOTHES AND CLOTHING

5.1
Full School Uniform MUST be worn to School and all School functions.

5.2
Casual dress consists of a Jeppe T-shirt or house-colour T-shirt, black Jeppe shorts and casual footwear. This rule will be relaxed for Termly Boarders on Sundays.

5.3
Coloured jerseys may be worn only inside the Boarding House during cold weather. School jerseys and tracksuits will be worn as a rule.

5.4
Sport must be played in the correct kit.

5.5
On leaving and returning to the Boarding House, full School uniform must be worn, (or a school track suit, when leaving directly from a practice or fixture).

5.6
No jewellery may be worn except for Medic Alert tags.

5.7
All clothing MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED.

5.8
All clothing must be taken home at the end of each week, laundered and repaired if necessary, unless other arrangements have been made. Termly Boarders must hand their laundry to Matron once a week.

5.9
Borrowing of clothing is not allowed.
 


6.
PREP ROOM AND PREP SESSIONS

6.1
The prep room is to be kept tidy at all times. Before leaving for School or weekends, all books must be placed in lockers or bags and neatly stacked.

6.2
During prep sessions, no Boarder may ask anybody else to help him. Any work such as projects or subjects requiring collaboration, must be done in the afternoon or during the breaks.

6.3
Borrowing is not allowed. Boarders must be prepared for prep and have all the necessary books in their possession.

6.4
During prep there must be silence. Cell phones may not be used in the prep room.

6.5
No magazines or novels are allowed unless part of a homework project.

6.6
If homework is completed, pupils are expected to study or read.
 


7.
PUNISHMENT, SUSPENSION AND EXCLUSION

A general atmosphere of order, system and work should prevail in a Boarding School. If a Boarder neglects to obey the rules of the Boarding House regarding good order and behaviour, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.


7.1
BUNKING


Bunking from the Boarding House at any time is regarded as a very serious breach of discipline and will be dealt with accordingly.

If bunking occurs at night, as soon as possible after the discovery thereof, the Housemaster on duty will inform the Senior Housemaster. Thereafter, the parents of the bunking Boarder(s) will be phoned (whatever the hour) informing them of the incident. As soon as possible after their return to the Boarding House, the parents will be phoned (whatever the hour) to inform them of the Boarder(s) return.

Bunkers will be required to appear before the Boarding House Disciplinary Committee. The circumstances of the bunking and the Boarder’s records will be taken into account, but all parties have agreed that, with the permission of the Headmaster, bunking may be punishable by immediate suspension or exclusion from the Boarding House.


7.2
ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES


If a Boarder tests positive for any illegal or banned substance, he will immediately be suspended until such time that a clearance certificate from a nominated doctor or hospital is handed to the Headmaster. The cost of the above is for the parents’ account.

If a Boarder tests positive for a second time, he will be expelled from the Boarding House and may not return to any of the Boarding Houses for the duration of his school career.


7.3
THEFT


If a Boarder is found guilty of any theft, he will be suspended for one term.

If a Boarder is found guilty of theft for a second time, he will be expelled immediately from the Boarding House and may not return to any of the Boarding Houses for the duration of his school career.


7.4
DISCIPLINARY HEARING


In the event of transgressions mentioned in 7.2 and 7.3, a Disciplinary Hearing will take place and the Boarder will serve any punishment instituted at such hearing.


7.5
APPEALS


Aggrieved Boarders or their parents may appeal in writing to the Headmaster for their case to be reconsidered. The Headmaster will consult with the Senior Housemaster before responding.
